Naggar, situated 20km before manali in himachal pradesh was the capital of the Kullu kingdom. Naggar’s (Nagar) interesting castle sits high above Katrain. With a pleasant, unhurried atmosphere, it is good place to stop a while. It is also an entry for treks to Malana. A strange mythology says that the deities of the world decided to make Naggar the celestial seat. “Jagati Patt” is a slab of kept in a small temple in the Naggar Castle premises. Local deities assemble here for protecting the people from any calamity whenever the need arises.
Today it’s USP is views of lofty snow capped mountains, pine forests, beautiful temples done in the typical pahadi way, peace and long walks. It’s also a starting point for several treks. One of the attractions in Naggar town is Uruswati Himalayan Folk Art Museum, Naggar. This folk art museum was founded by Professor and Madame Nicholas Roerich in 1928, where history, ethos, the traditions of the Himalayan region and the Tibetan medicines were studied.Naggar is home to the Roerich art gallery which has several beautiful paintings by Roerich, the Tripura Sundari temple, the palace(which is also a heritage hotel).Walk up to the Krishna temple for a quiet walk and bang on views of the Himalayas. Drive up to the Jana falls and have a typical himachali meal of lingad, maize roti, rajma, red rice at the dhaba.
